中国能源模型论坛/美国环保协会招收实习生

EDF/CEMF Internship Openings

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and the China Energy Modeling Forum (CEMF) are now seeking interns with one or more of the following expertise:

1) Quantitative data collection, processing, and analysis;

2) Academic writing or summarizing / Newsletter drafting, editing and brochure designing.

3) Outreach and public relation / Event organizing.

Interns will be assigned to positions based on their expertise and background. A successful candidate shall be able to follow requirements.

 

General requirements:

Duration: The duration of the position varies from 2 months to 6 months, with 3 months as the mode. The exact duration will be assigned between the successful applicants and CEMF/EDF.

Working hours: The position(s) typically requires 2-3 days of work per week during the academic terms and 4-5 days per week during summer or winter vacations. Exact working hours will be negotiated between both parties.

Working Environment: The position(s) requires on-site working during the working hours. The primary location is 28 East Andingmen Street, Yonghe Plaza. EDF may or may not provide a business laptop, depending on the position(s)’s duty and requirement. The position(s) requires traveling outside offices for meetings, seminars, and events.

Techniques: The position(s) generally requires average to advanced techniques in MS Office software. The position(s) also requires good to excellent English writing/reading/speaking skills.

 

Specific requirements by position:

1) Quant Research Intern;

The primary task for the Quant Research Intern position is to finish a series of energy-related data collection, processing, and analysis. The intern should be capable of writing working logs in English and brief reports/articles in Chinese (and preferably in English as well). Some administrative work may also be assigned to the intern.

Basic qualifications:

·         A keen interest in energy topics and quant methods.

·         Sophomore, junior, senior, graduate students or recent graduates.

·         Proficient Excel skills: familiar with pivot table, functions (e.g. VLOOKUP), etc.

·         Basic skills to process and analyze data with R or other software/languages.

·         Some previous experiences in climate change, energy, or environment topics.

Preferred qualifications:

·         Advanced Excel skills: familiar with Excel/VBA and other add-ins.

·         Demonstrated knowledge/experiences in climate change sciences, power sector, building sector, or transportation sector.

·         Advanced R programming skills or some GIS background. Other programming languages or statistical software will also be a plus.

 

2) Communications Intern;

Tasks for the Communications Intern position will include but not limited to:

·         Research on global energy policy. 

·         Work with our partners at Tsinghua University to develop communication strategies.

·         Investigate media opportunities.

·         Monitor relevant development for energy models and CEMF research fields.

·         Synthesize complex information into social media stories.

·         Academic event organizing.

·         Provide support to CEMF team members.

This position is highly interdisciplinary, and has an arc all the way from research conception to results communication. Successful applicants should demonstrate exceptional research and communications skills. Previous experience of design and graphic presentation skills is preferred but not required.

EDF/CEMF will provide competitive compensations based on your background and the specific position(s).

About CEMF

China Energy Modeling Forum, or CEMF, was established by Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management (THU-SPPM), Tsinghua University Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance (THU-CIDEG), and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in 2015.

CEMF is a platform for domestic and international modeling professionals as well as policymakers, investors, and other stakeholders. It aims to enhance model credibility and strengthen scientific policy development and decision making in the fields of environment, energy, and economy with the support of modeling tools. 70+ modeling teams from Tsinghua University (THU), Peking University (PKU), China Academy of Sciences (CAS), Energy Research Institute of National Development and Reform Commission (ERI), State Information Center (SIC) and other research institutions or think tanks are involved in CEMF events.
