Roundtable Forum
The roundtable forum session was moderated by Researcher Wang Shouyang and featured discussions with Professor Fan Ying, Researcher Li Shantong, Mr. Oleg Lugovoy, Professor Wu Libo, and Professor Zhou Yinggang on the "Development Strategy of the China-style Economic Modernization Forum."
Mr. Oleg Lugovoy emphasized the importance of transitioning to a low-carbon energy system. He highlighted the need to establish energy models to understand future energy supply and demand, find economically viable paths to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, and use low-carbon energy transformation to drive economic development.
Professor Fan Ying stated that low-carbon policies should consider China's current economic characteristics and marketization level. Market mechanisms should be better utilized to channel funds from across society into green, low-carbon, and high-quality growth, thereby achieving low-carbon, inclusive, and efficient economic growth.
Researcher Li Shantong mentioned that China's modernization needs to manage the "six relationships": top-level design and practical exploration, strategy and tactics, adhering to tradition and innovation, efficiency and fairness, vitality and order, self-reliance and opening up. This requires a careful study of foreign modernization experiences and lessons, exploration of regularities, and improvement of the ability to deal with various risks based on the exploration of regularities.
Professor Wu Libo emphasized the need for optimal adaptation between low-carbon energy systems and digital infrastructure, such as the integration of data and computing. Coupling research between macro models and micro mechanisms will also be an important direction in climate research.
Professor Zhou Yinggang discussed the relationship between China-style economic modernization and inclusiveness from an inclusive perspective. Concepts like common prosperity, harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, and pursuing a peaceful path are closely related to inclusiveness. Professor Zhou also mentioned that in the future, China should explore a path of autonomous, orderly, stable, and secure financial opening to safeguard the development of China-style economic modernization.
