On April 26, the 7th China Energy Modeling Forum (CEMF) Annual Conference was successfully held at Beijing Real Hotel. With the theme of "Accelerating Low-Carbon Transformation, Empowering a Beautiful China", this year's annual meeting shared the latest progress in China's low-carbon transformation path and related research, discussed how low-carbon transformation can empower the construction of a beautiful China, and provided a basis for domestic and foreign energy models. Researchers provide an open stage for displaying and exchanging academic achievements. The annual meeting set up a main forum and eight parallel sub-forums, attracting more than 500 experts, scholars, college students and other audiences to attend.

Speech

Xue Lan

Senior Professor of Liberal Arts at Tsinghua University, Dean of Schwarzman College, Director of CEMF Project

He Kebin

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean and Professor of Carbon Neutral Research Institute of Tsinghua University

Qin Hu

Vice President of EDF, Chief Representative of Beijing Representative Office

The main forum of the annual conference is co-chaired by Chen Ling, director of the Industrial Development and Environmental Governance Research Center of Tsinghua University, deputy director of CEMF, and Hu Xiulian, researcher of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission Macroeconomic Research Institute. Senior professor of liberal arts at Tsinghua University, dean of Schwarzman College, CEMF project Director Xue Lan pointed out in her speech that accelerating low-carbon transformation is a key measure to realize the construction of a beautiful China, ecological civilization and modernization, and it is necessary to coordinate all relevant stakeholders to find solutions.

He Kebin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, dean of the Carbon Neutral Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and professor, said that climate change has become a real and urgent crisis facing mankind, and actively responding to climate change is the top priority of our current work. Effective countermeasures.

Qin Hu, Vice President of EDF and Chief Representative of Beijing Representative Office, pointed out that addressing climate change is an important requirement for the construction of a beautiful China, and promoting climate action in an orderly and effective manner is conducive to obtaining multiple effects such as economy, society, environment and climate.

Keynote Speech

In the keynote speech, Pan Jiahua, deputy director of the National Climate Change Expert Committee and member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, believes that the problems faced by high-quality development of zero-carbon kinetic energy include technical route selection, energy supply guarantee, financial and market incentive mechanisms, etc. It is necessary to carry out exploration and innovation in policy and technology to address these issues, strengthen policy implementation and market guidance, improve technology research and development and application capabilities, and promote the development and application of zero-carbon kinetic energy.

Zhou Dadi, vice chairman of the China Energy Research Society and former director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, believes that uncertainty is a very big challenge in modeling. At this stage, modeling should focus on and solve the problem of how the model works and how to better serve the goal of low-carbon transformation.

Zhang Xiliang, director and professor of the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economics of Tsinghua University, shared his cutting-edge research on economic system modeling, energy system modeling, coupled modeling of human systems and earth systems, and the connection between atmospheric chemical models and economic systems and earth models. Thinking about scientific issues. He pointed out that these scientific issues are very important for optimizing the path of carbon-neutral transition, and he hopes that more young scholars and graduate students will pay attention to these issues.

Su Bin, a senior researcher at the Energy Research Institute of the National University of Singapore and director of the Energy and Environment Research Center, shared the issues involved in the use of photovoltaics in Singapore and the grid in the ASEAN region, and pointed out that the problems faced in the use of photovoltaics in Singapore involve factors such as cost, area of use, and price , while in the ASEAN regional power grid, it is necessary to consider the economic development, resource proportion and target commitment of different countries, and how to better conduct energy analysis under uncertainty.

Professor Lu Xi, assistant dean of the Carbon Neutral Research Institute of Tsinghua University, said that the key issues to be solved in China's energy transition are how to balance economic development and environmental protection, promote the adjustment of energy consumption structure and improve energy utilization efficiency. At the same time, he pointed out that there are still many challenges to be addressed in the process of promoting energy transformation, such as technology, policy and market issues.

Report Released

At the main forum of this year's annual conference, Gao Ji, director of EDF's energy and nature project, shared and introduced the main research results of the "2035 Beautiful China Series Reports - Accelerating Low-Carbon Transformation and Empowering 2035 Beautiful China". The report pointed out that the goal of building a beautiful China should focus on the field of ecological environment, focusing on the three important dimensions of coping with climate change, environmental quality and health, and ecological protection and restoration, and systematically and comprehensively promote and implement the work to effectively guide the comprehensive green transformation of social and economic development. , to achieve inclusive green growth, and contribute to the promotion of the 2030 global sustainable development agenda (SDG) and the realization of China's 2035 long-term planning goals. At the same time, the report also shared the research progress and practical cases of collaborative carbon reduction, pollution reduction, and green expansion in different fields such as energy, industry, construction, transportation, agriculture, and ecosystems. Based on emission reduction paths and case studies, the report puts forward countermeasures to promote sectoral low-carbon transformation and industrial structure adjustment, environmental pollution prevention and control, ecological protection and restoration, and climate change synergies from the perspectives of connotation, system and mechanism, technological innovation, and pilot demonstrations. Suggestions to empower the construction of a beautiful China.

Li Shantong, former Director of the Development Strategy and Regional Economic Research Department of the Development Research Center of the State Council; Zhang Zhiqiang, Director of the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Department of the National Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation Center; Liu Qiang, Deputy Chief Representative of the Children's Investment Foundation in China; Chen Ying, deputy director of the Sustainable Development Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences of the Research Institute, commented on the content of the report, and gave a high evaluation and affirmation of the report. He believed that the report provided important policy reference and guidance, which is very important for the realization of low-carbon Transformation and the construction of a beautiful China are of great significance. At the same time, commenting experts also hope that stakeholders, experts and scholars can further strengthen collaborative work, and conduct in-depth discussions and research on related issues in model development and application.

Young Scholars Forum

The main forum of this year's annual conference also announced the launch of the China Energy Modeling Forum Young Scholars Forum, which will build an academic exchange platform for outstanding young scholars who love models in the field of energy, environment and economics, aiming at cultivating and reserving for China's energy economy and environmental economy. An excellent youth model working team. The launching ceremony was presided over by Qiu Ying, deputy director of EDF Energy and Nature.
